Getting Around the Island
Martha's Vineyard is a 87-square mile island located six miles off the coast of Cape Cod, Mass. The island is accessible by air, ferry, and private boat.
There are direct flights on a variety of carriers from New York, Westchester, Washington, DC, and Philadelphia, including direct flights on Jet Blue from JFK. Cape Air services the island year-round from a number of locations.
The Steamship Authority carries both passengers and vehicles to Martha's Vineyard into the port of Vineyard Haven or Oak Bluffs. It is not necessary to bring your vehicle to the island, as transportation via public bus, rental cars, and private cabs are available. If you choose to bring your vehicle, you will need to obtain an advance reservation. Note that you can make a ferry reservation for a rental car.
There are several passenger-only ferries, including Island Queen from Falmouth and SeaStreak from New Bedford. SeaStreak also operates a seasonal ferry that runs on weekends from New York and New Jersey to Martha's Vineyard.
Here's a link to a Moviefone post that talks about some of the locations where JAWS was shot.
